I'm Reamohetse Lekhooe, an aspiring Graphic Designer and Visual Artist, born and raised in Bloemfontein, Free State, in 1999. I grew up with my two brothers, raised by my hardworking single mother. My artistic journey began at the Central University of Technology, where I pursued Communication Design (Graphic Design) and obtained my Diploma in Design and Studio Art. Currently, I'm employed at Dumelang Media, working as a newspaper layout designer and social media manager. For me, creative work isn't just a job; it's my life's passion.
Like many artists, my artistic roots trace back to my childhood in the streets of Turflaagte. Those early years involved crafting cars from wires, wood, and boxes, as well as sculpting human figures and houses from clay. Back then, I wasn't sure if art would be my path, but I cherished every moment of those creative endeavours. My true commitment to art came later, inspired by a love for fashion and my grandmother's dedication to knitting.
Since that turning point, I've been unwavering in my artistic journey. My portfolio includes both digital and traditional artworks, though I've yet to exhibit or compete with my work. I prefer to use charcoal and chalk to create my pieces. My inspiration stems from the people in my community and those I encounter in various places or on social media. I'm particularly drawn to those who face universal challenges, regardless of their social standing.
A central theme in my artwork is the colour yellow, symbolizing the radiant hope that resides within all of us. It represents the light that awakens us each morning, nurturing optimism and faith during our personal struggles. This luminosity provides comfort during moments of sorrow, despair, mental anguish, prejudice, and various hardships.
In essence, my art is a tribute to resilience, hope, and the unbreakable human spirit. It celebrates those who wake up each day, ready to confront adversity with unwavering determination. I echo the sentiment that "Tomorrow when I wake up, I promise to carry hope in my back pockets" through my creative expressions. Through my art, I not only showcase my talent but also shed light on the strength and beauty found in the human experience.
